Events have been postponed, gigs cancelled and music releases mostly came to a halt. Local artists spend a lot of time and money to create music that we get to enjoy. Due to the Covid-19 situation almost all sources of income for musicians and artists has stopped too.

When all this is over I urge every music lover to support these artists to get back on their feet ,keep creating the music we all love and bring us all together to celebrate the magic they create.

The ‘Lockdown Chat’ today is with Luke Chappell. He made it to X Factor Malta Season 1’s semi final and since then he has not looked back.

With 2 hit singles on the airwaves, Lovin Music Awards and Malta Music Awards nominations, performances in all major events and an album in the making, this young artist is here to stay and I for one cannot wait to see what this chap has up his sleeve.

Luke, since being one of the finalists in X Factor Malta’s season 1 live shows, you have released 2 singles along with music videos, performed at major events around the island and been nominated at the Lovin Music Awards and The Malta Music Awards. How has this year been for you as an artist?

Honestly, It’s been a dream come true. I couldn’t be more grateful for where I am right now in my life, with all the ups and down in my personal life and all the hard work to get the final results I hope for, it has all been so surreal for me. I have gone through a lot of hard emotional moments, not going to lie, but I wouldn’t change a thing and I am happy to say that it matured me more as a person and it got me appreciating what I have and who I have in my life at the present moment. Looking back, I thank God for this path he gave me.

What has been the highlight of these past 2 years for you?

I think the best highlight was going through the process of X Factor and maturing more as an artist to getting to a point where I somehow got to work with Peter Borg from Red Electric. He dedicates so much for his clients and it’s not just work for him, it’s a passion and creates masterpieces out of love for the artist. He is like a big brother for me, and I love getting to know him more and more every day.
Working side by side with him and him introducing me to the guys and getting to know the boys from Red Electrick personally, I think that’s been a big highlight for me. I love them with all my heart and I can say their like big brother to me. They inspire me to keep my passion alive and do this not just as a job, but also to keep the passion and love for music innocent and alive.

Your song writing is really deep when one remembers your young age. What inspires you when it comes to writing a song?

That’s a though one because I mostly write off the experiences I personally have. Mostly I write when I am stuck in a situation that hurts me, and that of course makes me look at my own situation 10 times even more dramatic than it is, so the writing comes off as if it’s the worst heartbreak I went through. Which to be honest is necessary because that’s what makes it relatable for others. I also write a lot at night, when It’s dark outside and there are stars in the skies above, it just makes me feel closer to finalizing what I feel and spilling it on a piece of paper. The guitar melody is what wraps it all together for me.

Are there any local artists that inspire you and would maybe one day like to collaborate with?

As I said, I think Red Electrick won me over for inspiration, but that is thanks to the fact that I got to know them more and more over the years and I got to see how much hard work and dedication they put into what they love. I would love to collaborate with them in the future on a track or even a concert, It would be an honour.

But apart from REK, I would also love to collaborate with Eddie Fresco. I’m lucky to say that he’s also a good friend of mine, and we’ve worked on unreleased tracks together in the past and experiment with our music together, I just wish we could actually release something which will finally be a finished product for the fans to hear.

We have heard a teaser of the new single coming out soon. Can you give us any more info?

I could only say that there are better parts in the full version of the song, from what you’ve heard on the Instagram teaser. I can’t wait for you all to hear the chorus which is the favourite part of mine. The release date will be announced a few days before I release the song so stay tuned!

And last but not least. Your message to your fans out there during this time?

Oh man, I don’t know where to even start.
Honestly you guys aren’t fans, you guys are like a second family to me and I would like to thank you guys for all of the positive response, it has been excellent and I am honestly really grateful because I didn’t expect so
much feedback in a few hours of the release of the teaser. So thank you from the bottom of my heart and I sincerely hope you will enjoy and like the full version of the song. Much love and stay safe during these troubled times, I’ll be praying for you and your families.
Love, Luke.
