Who are Hazyl?

In this present moment, Hazyl is a four-piece band having Ryen Refalo on guitar, Liam Spiteri on bass, Mauro D’Amato on drums and Debbie Stivala as a singer. We might have other additions in the near future.

What’s the story behind the name and the band? How did you all decide to get together and form Hazyl?

It started two and a half years ago. Debbie (singer) and Ryen (guitarist) hooked up to play covers which led to songwriting. It became our main focus. After a year we met Mauro (drummer) who instantly liked our work and got hooked up. Then a few months later we called out for Liam, who was also keen on our material. As for the name, that came last. We spent sometime brainstorming about it and we had other options but we all agreed on Hazyl (which was found randomly from a dictionary and amended by Ryen to give it a twist. There’s no particular connection to the name. Present logo for the name was designed by the drummer himself, Mauro.

Your debut single has already gathered over 6000 views …. how has the response been so far?

So far so good! All local radio stations are playing it and the public’s response is a very positive one. And the more it’s shared, the merrier it gets. We’re very happy with the turnout and excited to share even more.

Is ‘Hush Now’ the first original material you have worked on even as individuals?

‘Hush Now’ was written mainly by Debbie and Ryen and we were blessed with the magical touches of producer David Vella. It is our first original single as a band yes. Individually, we have all been involved in other projects in the past.

What does the near future hold for Hazyl?

Who knows what the future holds!?  We’re working and staying positive and hoping for good stuff to come along.  In the meantime, we’re recording more.

And I for one cannot wait to hear more material from these guys 🙂

If you haven’t yet listened to ‘Hush Now’, what are you waiting for?!
